Congratulations to Team Beaufort Olympic Weight Lifting! Talent runs in the family- brothers Omar & CJ Cummings are heading to Tashkent, Uzbekistan to be a part of the U.S. Boys Team for the 2013 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Youth World Championships, April 13, 2013. The team consists of the top 8 lifters in the nation (ages 17 & under).
On February 16, 14-year-old Omar competed at the 2013 National Junior Weightlifting Championships in California. At 149 lbs., Omar made a clean and jerk of 265 lbs.! His coach, Ray Jones, calls Omar “one of the best lifters in the United States!” Omar has secured an alternate spot on the international team. Younger brother CJ, at a weight of 122 lbs., qualified for the team with a final clean and jerk of 258 lbs. in the Junior Nationals. Before CJ, the youngest person in the history of U.S. weightlifting to qualify for international competition was 14 years old! Coach Ray Jones has been selected as the Youth World Team head coach.
